Hypogenic Speleogenesis and Karst Hydrogeology of Artesian Basins

The International Conference on "Hypogenic Speleogenesis and Karst Hydrogeology of Artesian Basins" will be held in May 2009 in Western Ukraine (Chernivtsy), jointly orhanized by the Ukrainian Institute of Speleology and Karstology (UISK) and the National Cave and Karst Research Institute (NCKRI). This is to remind you that deadline for preliminary registration and abstracts submission will be due in October 30, 2008.

Sessions: We plan two days of scientific sessions with papers on various aspects of hypogenic speleogenesis and related aspects of karst evolution, hydrogeology and engineering geology, from both theoretical and regional perspective.

Field excursions: The Western Ukraine is an internationally recognized model region of hypogenic speleogenesis in stratified artesian settings, which hosts the world's largest gypsum maze caves. Two days of field excursions through karst areas of Bukovina, Pridnestrovskaja Podolia and Pokutje will be organized between and after scientific sessions. They will offer a unique opportunity for participants to familiarize themselves with a spectrum of evolutionary types of karst (from deep-seated to entrenched), present in the region. Field trips will serve to illustrate scientific and practical aspects of hypogenic speleogenesis, karst hydrogeology of artesian basins and engineering geology of covered karst.
