Expedition explores Ali Sadr Cave

"Iran-Ali Sadr Cave-Expedition
An international group of cave explorers has arrived in Kaboudarahang, Hamedan province, to study the Ali Sadr Cave.

The secretary of the expedition said that renowned British cave explorer Simon Brooks, accompanied by German-based Iranian cave explorer Sharareh Qazi and several other skilled cavers, ahve arrived in this northwestern province to map out the famous water cave and closely examine its chambers.

Javad Giahshenas said that the group aims to make a map of the cave and excavate new chambers and lakes.

They are also expected to visit Doudza Cave in Shirin-Su region of Kaboudarahang which was discovered by mountaineers in March 2006, he unveiled.

He said Doudza Cave closely resembles Ali Sadr Cave and the group intends to make a map of one of its chambers.

Giahshenas further said that the group, composed of 22 cavers from Ukraine, Germany, Russia, UK and Iran, recently discovered the world's deepest cave known as Voronja (Krubera) in Abkhazia, Georgia.

He said that the expedition would also tour Perav Cave, with a depth of 752 meters, in Kermanshah during their 20-day stay. "
